I love Halloween. It is, hands down, my favorite holiday.
When we were kids, my mom handmade our costumes and we trick-or-treated the neighborhood. As we got older, my folks joined the Crazy Church and their un-Halloween party was never that great. For one thing, costumes were frowned upon. Halloween (and un-Halloween) are not fun unless you can dress up.
The whole idea of being able to put on someone else’s skin – take on an entirely different persona – is the best part of the holiday.
Most of my costume arrived today (purchased in bits and pieces) and I think I’ve found someone who can make the minor alterations I need. I am completely excited because 1. I’ve got a great reason to dress up. Carly’s rehearsal/rehearsal dinner is that night and they’re encouraging costumes. Bad ass. 2. I’ve got a for reals costume. Not a purchased out of a bag thing, but pieces of clothing that are well made and can be used for a long time (not to mention several different kinds of costumes).
I’m leaning more towards pirate, but George Sand is not entirely out of the picture. I’ll probably decide when I find a hat.
I totally expect to see pictures. No cheating. I want the whole deal! Sounds like a lot of fun!! Oh and I picked up a really fugly flashing stuffed cat and pumpkin headband to wear while I take the kids trick or treating and of course there will be pictures.
